What is a nose job?
A nose job is an operation which helps to change the shape of the nose and/or improve the breathing function as per your desires keeping in mind your safety and functionality.
What kind of nasal deformities can be corrected with this surgery?
- Any person with a humped nose, depressed or saddle nose, wide nose, drooping tip or rounded tip benefits the most from this surgery.
- The curtain separating two halves of the nose is called the nasal septum. In certain individuals, this may be tilted to one side causing deviation of the nose (crooked nose) and difficulty in breathing. This can be corrected along with this procedure.
Will this surgery affect my breathing?
No, in fact it may help improve your breathing if a tilted septum is causing obstruction to air flow.
Will artificial materials be used to change the nose shape?
Yes. Artificial materials are available to change the shape of the nose. However, we prefer to use your own tissues(cartilage), if required.
The common sites are from the nose itself or the back of the ear or from the rib. This will be determined by us pre-operatively and discussed in detail.
How many days will I have to be admitted?
We recommend that you be admitted for 1-2 days following surgery for your safety. This depends on your comfort level.
How long do I need to rest following the surgery?
Our recommendation is to rest for at least 7 days at home following the surgery. There will be some swelling and bruising over the nose but that will resolve over time.
What precautions must I follow after surgery?
- A protective nasal shield will be applied over your nose, which has to be worn at all times. This is usually removed by the 7th day.
- Also you must ensure that you rest well, relax and do not indulge in any activities that may cause a sudden increase in blood pressure such as bending over.
- You must also sleep with your head on a couple of pillows so as to keep it raised during this time. Impacts and trauma on the nose, especially around pets and small children, must be avoided.
What are the complications?
With proper planning and our strict adherence to patient safety, complications will be rare. However, postsurgical bleeding and infection may rarely take place.
Will there be any scars?
- Yes, all surgeries result in scars.
- With good suturing technique and attention to detail, scars usually are not overtly visible.
